I haven't posted for a while...no one has! School has been very busy, and other things have interfered as well.
I had the flu...it was very nasty and I am still dealing with the effects of it. Since I was actually ill in October...still having effects now is pretty dramatic. Please get the H1N1 vaccine if you are in any way able to!
School is going okay...a bit overwhelming, but it always is at the end of the semester. Currently I have a 2-3 page news analysis and a take-home final for Intro to Social Work, a 3-4 page (single spaced) research paper, a lab exam and a final for Biology, and my final paper for Sociological Methods Seminar, remaining to complete. The last one is the one that is the most stressful. This paper is for a semester long research project involving 8 hours of participant observation in a setting that I chose. The paper will be somewhere around 30 pages, with all the formal elements of a paper being submitted for publication.
I do want to say that I absolutely HATE my Social Work class! So...Jade, I will not be going into social work! :P I'm sticking with nursing as my end goal. I did go to a graduate school forum that people had to be specifically invited to. The invitation was based on GPA, and potential to succeed in graduate school. A faculty member had to submit students' names and then students were chosen to go. The forum was for all of CA and was at UCSC. While I was there I spent a lot of time talking with the Dean of Advanced Practice Nursing from UCSF. UCSF is now my first choice school. Cross your fingers everyone.
One last thing....
I have not heard from or seen any sign of a specific dear friend, her blog is even gone. Emails have gone unanswered, her cell phone is disconnected, and I do not have a land-line number. I am hoping a few of you will know who I am talking about, and maybe know something...she was friends with a few of you as well (Jade, Mamabeak, Kate). I am worried about her and miss her very much. I will be sending out an xmas card as I do have an address, but I would really like to hear from her, or at least know what is going on.

I've a couple long time friends who went AWOL and I've no way of finding out what happened to them. It makes me sad and worried.
I'm dragging myself through one more year of a nursing program because it could lead to a very good position. But to be honest, it is not where my passion lies.
I had the flu in late october and am still coughing.
I don't know if my energy crisis is fall out from the flu or just being a full time student who's got MG and Lupus and all the junk that piles up at the end of the semester. So far I've been back to school for 3 semesters and I've been sick finals week for the 3rd semester in a row.
I'm guessing autoimmunity and finals aren't friends.
I'm already looking forward to next semester. Will get to take 3 psych classes, maybe I'll start to feel like a psych major then?
Fingers crossed for you! Will come back and say more later, but wanted to acknowledge... OMG, SNOW up in your area. Far out!!!
good luck with finishing up the semester. i hope you get a chance to rest and relax over your break!
and also good luck with finding your friend; it's hard when people seem to disappear like that.
it would be nice to know what happened to the dear friend
I have been wondering about her as well. Sounds like school is going great for you!
Just read they are recalling the H1N1 for kids as the vaccine is too weak! Yikes!
I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you for UCSF. You should be so proud of your accomplishments and being honored in that way. Way to go!
I didn't get the vaccine because I figured I'd live when others may not. I think it would be horrible to have it but I'd live which is why I didn't get it. I guess I just wanted to save it for those who may not make it without it.
The blog buddy......
I wasn't sure what happened to her either. She was just sort of gone and my emails have gone unanswered as well. I'm not sure what to think. It's rather worrisome.
Austin
I got vaccinated today. Regular flu shot in one arm and H1N1 in the other
Hate losing people like that. If the person is who I think, I have lost touch as well. :(
Hope your holiday is going well and you're recharging your batteries for the next go around! I'm not into social work either. Much prefer therapy and testing to the footwork, though it's very important. Sounds like the undergrad is doing just what it's supposed to for you... sorting out where you want to go from here. Good!
Nursing is much more flexible, and definitely a great field to work towards.
Just checking back to see how 2010 is treatin' ya so far. Hope all is well.
