Yesterday I spent the day at orientation at theUniversity I am transfering to. One of my classmates is transferring also and she was attending orientation as well, so I had someone to hang with most of the day. We had to separate when it was time to go to our respective departments, but then we re-connected after. Some of the day was a bit boring...but a lot of it was fun.

I had declared two majors, but somehow, only one showed up on my paperwork at registration...pre-nursing. So when it was time to go to the departments for advising, I was expected to go to the nursing department and then go to the Sociology department afterwards, if there was time. There wasn't time. This actually turned out to be a bit of a problem. I did get some good information at the nursing department though. I am changing my plans a little! The JC lies!! Apparently alot...because my friend had some problems too. I was told that pre-nursing majors get preferrence to the nursing program at the University...they do not. There are on average, 300 applicants each year, and only 30 people accepted. The requirement for core science GPA is 3.00...however, for the last four years, everyone who has been accepted has had a 3.8 (or higher)! I don't have that. I need to repeat Anatomy at the University...a C isn't good enough. After the advising session with the group (three of us), the advisor talked to me alone. She had a suggestion. Since I have a double major, her suggestion was to consider keeping my double major and finishing the nursing prerq's (and continue advising in the nursing department)...but concentrate on the Sociology and graduate with a Bachlor's in Sociology. THEN DO THE DIRECT ENTRY MASTER'S IN NURSING PROGRAM! This program is for people who have a Bachlor's in something other than nursing. The program is 18 months (as opposed to three years) and includes the RN licesure education and Master's level education...but no GE stuff...because that is already done. Hmmm...that sounds pretty good to me! It wouldn't take me any longer and I would have more options when graduating...for example...immediately entering the FNP post-graduate program...which is my biggest, I thought maybe unattainable, goal.

Ok...so I hook back up with my friend and we go get some food...there are SIX places to eat on campus! The JC has umm...none now...they demolished the cafeteria and are building a new one. The places are all different, have different atmospheres and different food...we went and peaked at them all then decided to go to "The Pub". Cute place...kind of set up like a sports bar only the tv screens had music videos playing instead of sports. A student told me that they televise University games live on the screens...that's pretty cool. The Pub has a big balcony with tables that overlooks the lake and wooded area of campus...very nice. One strange thing...they serve beer! No...neither of us had a beer. At the JC, having any alcohol, of any kind, anyplace other than the closed trunk of your car, opened or not...will get you expelled...no questions asked.

After lunch it was time to go to the computer lab to register for classes...so off we went. Found the lab with no problem and the line was HUGE!! This was ok though because apparently there was a problem with the registration process anyway and it was going to take about a half-hour to fix. So my friend and I went and got our student id's then just sat somewhere soaking up the sun (it was really nice out). We went back after about 45 minutes and everything was fixed. This is where things turned a little bad. My friend found the Physio class we both need before I did and added it...then when she went through the rest of the process, it said she didn't have the prereq done. Uh oh...the advisor helping in the lab sent her (and I, since she and I have taken the same classes as prereqs) to the Bio department to find out if we could get that "corrected" so we can register. Long story short...my friend and I are in Chem together now (she was told this particular Chem was the prereq...it's not), however, I had taken another Chem already...so she hasn't met the prereq, but I have. To say she is upset is an understatement! I went back to the computer lab and registered for the Physio class with no problem (I hadn't tried yet)...then my problems began. I wanted Physio, Poli Sci, and two Soc classes...one of which is the prereq for all upper division Soc. I found it, selected it, went to the end of the process and...it said I hadn't met the prereq!! Freaked out a bit because the prereq was listed on my transferred classes (with an A no less), right in front of me! Then I saw it...additional prereq...must be a declared Sociology major to take this class. Crap...I didn't get to go to that advising session, the major didn't show up on my "stuff"...I had a form that needs to be signed by the department chair to add Soc as a 2nd major...and it is now 4 pm. Just great. Sooo...I went to the Soc department hoping that it might be possible to still see the department chair...it wasn't. However, the department secretary was there and she talked to me a bit then one of the professors (not the chair) walked by and the secretary called her over. I got a lot of advice/directions. The professor showed me four upper division Soc classes that do not have the the class I couldn't get as a prereq. Her advice was to grab a couple of those classes...they will double count as upper division GE (I need 9 units of that) and towards the Soc major. Then to come to open office hours on Monday (they are well after I get out of class) and talk to the chair then...and bring my transcripts with the Soc classes I have had highlighted for her. I can get the form signed then and get it submitted...it will take a while to get entered into the computer anyway, so I won't be able to take the class I need until the spring...but I still have two other upper division classes that I can take concurently in the spring. So...much relieved I left.

And now I am an officially registered junior at the University. 15 unites in the Fall...that's only four classes by the way...three of them are 4 unit classes. I don't know yet how my friend faired...she will either text me or let me know on Tuesday when I see her in Chem.

Things are very up and down right now. Bad stuff, good stuff, bad stuff, good stuff, bad stuff...since the last round was bad, something good should be coming my way next, right? :P

The latest on the transfer front is...I got 2 grants that together cover all but $43 of tuition for the next school year, I have an interview for a $2000 scholarship on 5/2, today in the mail I received a letter saying that I got a $1000 scholarship that I applied for and I also have an offer of student loans (which I can turn down up to 30 days after they are disbursed, at the end of Aug).

On the partner front...the final word was received, charges will not be pressed, the GP has ordered a bunch of lab work and is working on an authorization for a recovery program, it looks like she may be able to get unemployment, and she has been to 3 meetings since Wednesday.

I won't go into the bad right now.

Well, I am having trouble getting the template I want on here...blogger issue I think, but whatever the problem is, it isn't working. Anyway...this is the new public blog. It will be looking better sometime in the future. I don't know how soon, but eventually it will look better.
